Today, the first World Championships of this speed skating season will start on the Olympic Oval of Calgary, Canada. On Saturday and Sunday the sprinters will compete for this prestigious title, battling over twice a 500 meter and twice a 1000 meter. After the Essent ISU World Cup of last week, in Salt Lake City, it will be interesting to see who will win the title and if there will skated any world records.

Reigning champion for the men is Korean Kyu-Hyuk Lee, who won the sprint title for 4 times. He will be competing again this weekend and will as always be one of the skaters who can be on the podium, although his season was not that good until now. 'I am getting older, so I have to choose the right competitions. I can not race at my top level every race, but I want to be good here,' Lee said yesterday.

Follow the races on the ISU live stream from 20.00 Western Europe time!
